Overview

The Teacher of Game Development and Creative Media will plan and deliver high‑quality, inspiring lessons across Key Stage 4 and post‑16. This includes Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Game Development, Creative Media and Esports within the In Toto Ed group of schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Computing, Game Development, Creative Media and Esports lessons across KS4‑5 in line with the school curriculum, policies and schemes of work.
  • Deliver accredited NCFE and UAL units and projects, ensuring coverage of all required learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
  • Teach a range of theory and practical content: programming and computational thinking, game design and interactive storytelling, digital media production (video, audio, graphics, streaming), and Esports theory and practical sessions.
  • Use a range of technology and software (e.g. Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, Adobe Creative Cloud, broadcasting/streaming tools) to support interactive, project‑based learning.
  • Model confident and creative use of digital tools and workflows, including game prototypes, coding solutions, media assets and Esports production.
  • Teach and support students in using industry‑relevant platforms for Esports, including tournament management, content creation and live streaming.
  • Ensure clear progression in students\’ technical knowledge, practical skills, creativity and problem‑solving through structured and imaginative learning experiences.
  • Set clear, measurable learning objectives and use assessment data to inform future planning, intervention and target‑setting.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and establish a positive, inclusive and productive learning environment in classrooms, computer labs and Esports spaces.
  • Keep accurate records of assessment, attendance and progress; report regularly to parents and carers; write reports and contribute to grade tracking.
  • Attend parents\’/carers\’ evenings as required.
  • Contribute to enrichment and the wider school community through extra‑curricular projects such as coding and game development clubs, Esports teams, leagues, events, game jams and digital showcases.
  • Support school events such as open evenings, exhibitions, showcases and community events that celebrate students\’ digital, media and Esports work.
  • Follow safeguarding and child protection policies, including online safety, and collaborate with colleagues and external partners.
  • Ensure all equipment, software and digital resources are maintained, stored and used safely in line with Health and Safety and online safety procedures.
  • Take responsibility for developing a specific area of the curriculum (e.g. NCFE Esports, UAL Creative Media projects) and share updates at department meetings.
  • Attend departmental, moderation and standardisation meetings linked to NCFE and UAL assessment.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of schemes of work, internal verification processes, assignment briefs and teaching resources.
  • Undertake the role of form tutor when required and support pastoral needs of students.
  • Support assessments, practical projects, coursework portfolios and exam preparation for NCFE and UAL internal and external assessment requirements.
  • Provide cover for absent colleagues and support supervision and invigilation duties when necessary.
  • Participate in the school\’s performance management and appraisal processes.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Excellent subject knowledge up to Level 3 in computing, game development, creative media and Esports.
  • Confidence in delivering NCFE and UAL qualifications, including assignment‑based and project‑based assessment, internal verification and evidence requirements.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools: programming languages (Python, C#, JavaScript), game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot), media production tools (video editing, audio production, graphics), and streaming/broadcast tools (OBS).
  • Experience teaching or supporting Level 2/3 vocational courses in computing, creative media, game development or Esports.
  • Strong classroom management skills enabling a calm, purposeful and focused learning environment.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students through practical, creative and project‑based learning that reflects current industry practice.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and assessment cycles.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration within the digital, creative and Esports team.
  • Passion for supporting students of all abilities, including those with special educational needs, ensuring an accessible and inclusive learning experience.
