About the Role:
Our client, a respected educational institution in Gloucester, is seeking a skilled IT Technician to support the school\’s IT infrastructure and ensure the smooth functioning of its systems for both staff and students. This role is ideal for a proactive IT professional with experience in troubleshooting, system maintenance, and user support in an educational setting.

As an IT Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the school\’s IT systems, providing technical support, and working closely with both the IT team and external partners to ensure that the school\’s technological needs are met effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide day-to-day IT support to staff and students, troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
  2. Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT equipment, including computers, printers, interactive whiteboards, and network systems.
  3. Support the management of the school\’s servers, networks, and Active Directory, ensuring systems run efficiently.
  4. Help maintain IT security protocols, backup systems, and disaster recovery processes to protect school data.
  5. Collaborate with the school\’s leadership team to support the rollout of new technologies and system upgrades.
  6. Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies in Active Directory.
  7. Provide first-line and second-line technical support, escalating complex issues to third-party vendors when necessary.
  8. Assist with the documentation of IT processes, system configurations, and user guides for staff and students.
  9. Offer advice and guidance to staff on the effective use of school IT resources.
  10. Maintain an asset register and manage inventory of IT equipment.

Requirements:

  1. Proven experience as an IT Technician, ideally in a school or educational environment.
  2. Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, and network troubleshooting (LAN/WAN, DNS, DHCP).
  3. Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware or Hyper-V) and cloud environments like Microsoft Azure.
  4. Experience supporting end-users in both hardware and software troubleshooting.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  6. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.
  7. Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft) would be an advantage.
