We have a fantastic new role for a long established consumer goods and homewares company.
Working as part of our logistic team you will be controlling part of the businesses’ international logistics & customs activities. We import in excess of 1000 TEU per annum, manage specialist customs procedures (CFSP, CW & IP), and export consignments daily, and there is a diverse range of activities you will be involved with. We have an experienced and supportive team who enjoy a friendly repartee alongside a professional approach to our work, often running training and knowledge share sessions to keep ourselves up to date.
Key Responsibilities
The key elements of this role would be:
1. Controlling FOB imports from multiple origins including the Middle & Far East (95% FCL, 5% Air). This is the primary function for our Logistics Controllers.
2. Controlling customs compliance and customs entry submissions. Our team use 6 different customs procedures to control the importing, warehousing, & exporting of our stock.
3. Controlling exports to multiple destinations including the EU, US & ROW (DDP, DAP, FCA, EXW) via road freight, air freight, LCL, & courier.
Business As Usual Activities:
· Working closely with stakeholders to control international movements. Dealing with logistical issues as they arise, and providing feedback/suggestions to management where appropriate.
· Collect, create, & archive documentation for international movements (commercial invoices, packing lists/shipment advice, customs entry instructions, GSP evidence, proof of export).
· Maintain and update internal systems to support the movement of goods and reporting.
· Work closely with the warehouse teams to control the delivery of imported goods in consideration of the warehouse intake schedules.
· Provide support with trade finance and letter of credit agreements where applicable.
· Learn & contribute to our freight & customs decision making in consideration of our approach to Logistics & Customs management.
· Work closely with the dispatch team & freight forwarders to control the collection of export orders in consideration of stock status & customs requirements.
Skills and Experience
· Experience of working with freight forwarders or shipping lines preferred.
· Foundational customs knowledge & experience (classification, valuation, origin). Awareness & experience of customs special procedures would be beneficial.
· Ability to make decisions based on commercial and operational information.
· Use of transport & customs systems. Appreciation of data and working knowledge of MS Excel functions (vlookup & pivot tables would be advantageous).
· A team player and good communicator, able to work well with your teammates and cross departmentally to achieve our goals.
· Continuous improvement mindset and a “can do” approach.
· An interest in customs procedures, customs compliance, tax management, & international trade.
· An interest in learning and development to grow with the businesses’ continuously developing requirements.
· An interest in the use of systems and data to support processes/workload would be advantageous.
