We are delighted to be partnering with a forward-thinking accountancy practice to recruit an Accounts Manager / Senior Accountant into a key role within their Accounts Department. The Opportunity
Reporting directly to a Senior Manager, you will deliver high-quality accountancy and business advisory services while leading and developing a small team. You will take ownership of your own client portfolio while supporting more senior colleagues on complex matters and specialist assignments. This is a role that blends technical excellence, people leadership, and commercial awareness, making it ideal for someone looking to step into a broader, more strategic position.
Key Responsibilities
- Client & Advisory
- Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring delivery in line with internal processes and professional standards
- Prepare and review statutory accounts and management accounts (monthly/quarterly)
- Deliver business advisory services, identifying opportunities to add value across your client base
- Prepare forecasts and projections with senior support where required
- Maintain strong, trusted client relationships through regular direct contact
- Communicate with HMRC and liaise with external advisers (financial, legal, pensions, mortgage advisors)
- Carry out formal fee reviews and agree updated fees with clients
- Team Leadership & Development
- Line manage Accountants, Trainee Accountants and Accounts Assistants
- Review work produced by the team and provide technical guidance
- Identify capacity issues, manage workflow, and reallocate work as required
- Deliver performance reviews, coaching and on-the-job training
- Support recruitment activity, including CV reviews and interviews
- Operational & Business Improvement
- Oversee business compliance requirements across your portfolio
- Support VAT queries and reviews alongside bookkeeping and accounts teams
- Play a key role in client onboarding and internal coordination across departments
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance efficiency and profitability
- Participate in steering group meetings and business improvement projects
- Maintain fee lists, reporting and financial controls for your portfolio
What Weβre Looking For
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CA or equivalent)
- Strong experience in practice, producing and reviewing statutory and management accounts
- Proven ability to manage and develop junior team members
- Commercially minded with a genuine interest in business advisory
- Confident communicator, comfortable dealing with clients and stakeholders
- Highly organised with strong workload and time management skills
- Proactive mindset with an appetite for continuous improvement and learning
