Multiply are supporting a well-established and growing business based on the outskirts of Edinburgh, to recruit a full-time Payroll Executive on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented individual to join a collaborative and compliance-focused finance team.
The Role
This role sits within a close-knit and supportive finance function and will play a pivotal role in managing payroll operations and ensuring compliance with complex UK payroll legislation. Working closely with senior finance and HR stakeholders, the successful candidate will oversee payroll processes and provide expert guidance on IR35, Off-Payroll Working, CIS, and Agency Worker Regulations.
As the Payroll Executive, you will be involved in but not restricted to the following duties:
- Managing and processing accurate and timely payroll for employees, contractors, and agency workers
- Ensuring compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, IR35, Off-Payroll Working rules, CIS, and Agency Worker Regulations
- Liaising with HMRC, auditors, recruitment agencies, and internal teams to resolve payroll queries
- Maintaining and updating payroll records and systems in line with statutory requirements
- Preparing and submitting RTI submissions, CIS returns, and year-end reports
- Leading payroll-related projects including system upgrades and process improvements
- Assessing employment status for tax under IR35 and Off-Payroll Working rules
- Overseeing CIS compliance including subcontractor verification and monthly returns
- Providing expert advice on payroll legislation and its implications for the business
- Keeping up to date with legislative changes and updating internal policies accordingly
To be considered for this opportunity, you must have the following:
- Proven experience in a payroll management or senior payroll role
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation including IR35, Off-Payroll Working, CIS, and Agency Worker Regulations
- High attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage Payroll) and Microsoft Office
- Confident communicator – able to explain complex payroll matters clearly
- Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative, with strong organisational skills
- Professional payroll qualification (e.g., CIPP or equivalent) is highly desirable
