UK-wide Performance Blood & Genetic Testing

About IMULAB

IMULAB is a UK-wide performance blood and genetic testing company helping people understand what is happening inside their body with greater clarity. We work with individuals, athletes, sports teams, clinics and commercial partners to provide advanced blood testing and selected genetic testing across areas such as performance, recovery, cardiovascular risk, hormones, nutrition, inflammation, metabolic health and long-term wellbeing. Our aim is simple: to make advanced testing easier to access, easier to understand and more useful in real life. We combine high-quality laboratory testing with clear clinical commentary and a strong focus on safety, evidence and responsible communication.

We are now looking for an experienced clinician to support the interpretation of customer test results and help us continue to build a clinically robust, trusted service across the UK.

The role

This role would suit a practising GP or experienced clinician looking for flexible freelance work outside normal clinical hours. You will review customer blood test results and provide clear written review through our online platform. The role requires strong clinical judgement, the ability to explain results in plain English, and an understanding of how biomarkers relate to health, performance, lifestyle and risk. You will not be expected to provide ongoing primary care. Instead, your role is to comment on results, identify clinically relevant findings for informational purposes, and advise when a customer should seek follow-up care through their own GP, specialist or urgent services.

Key responsibilities

  • Review customer blood test results and provide clear, clinically appropriate written interpretations.
  • Identify abnormal, borderline or clinically significant results and explain their potential relevance.
  • Provide practical, evidence-informed guidance where appropriate, including lifestyle, nutrition, supplementation or follow-up recommendations within scope.
  • Clearly flag when results require GP review, repeat testing, urgent follow-up or specialist referral.
  • Interpret results in the context of performance, recovery, cardiovascular health, metabolic health, hormones, inflammation, nutritional status and general wellbeing.

Clinical governance

  • Work with the wider team to support safe clinical pathways.
  • Assist with clinical audits, quality improvement and review of report templates.
  • Help refine escalation processes for urgent, high-risk or clinically complex results.
  • Contribute to the development of safe wording, customer guidance and internal clinical protocols.
  • Support non-clinical team members with appropriate answers to customer clinical queries.

Product and customer service development

  • Collaborate with the IMULAB team to improve report quality, customer understanding and the overall testing experience.
  • Provide clinical input into new test panels, interpretation frameworks and partner programmes.
  • Support the development of educational content, where appropriate, including blogs, explainers or clinician-approved guidance.

What we are looking for

  • Current GMC licence to practise.
  • GP specialist registration, or relevant senior clinical experience.
  • Strong clinical judgement and confidence interpreting blood results.
  • Experience identifying red flags and knowing when escalation is required.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • The ability to explain complex clinical information clearly and calmly.
  • An interest in performance health, prevention, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, longevity, sports medicine or personalised health.
  • A careful, evidence-led approach to clinical interpretation.
  • An understanding of the limits of consumer wellness health testing and the importance of responsible communication.
  • Good attention to detail and comfort working remotely through digital systems.

Desirable experience

  • Experience with private health screening, sports medicine, functional medicine, lifestyle medicine, occupational health or preventative health.
  • Experience interpreting advanced biomarker panels.
  • Interest in genetics, methylation, nutrigenomics or polygenic risk, with awareness of the limitations of these areas.
  • Experience working with athletes, high-performance clients or executive health clients.
  • Experience contributing to clinical governance, audits or service development.

What we offer

  • Flexible remote work.
  • Freelance / contractor arrangement.
  • Competitive compensation per report or agreed sessional structure.
  • Opportunity to work with a growing UK-wide performance testing company.
  • Involvement in advanced blood and genetic testing across consumer, athlete and partner settings.
  • The chance to help shape clinical processes, interpretation standards and future products.
  • A collaborative team focused on evidence, clarity, safety and practical customer value.

Application process

Please send your CV and a short note outlining your clinical background, current role and interest in performance blood testing. Applications will be reviewed within 5 working days. Suitable applicants will be invited to an initial 30-minute online meeting to discuss the role, your experience and how the working arrangement could fit around your existing commitments.
