Position: Permanent, Full-time

Our client, an established IT services and managed technology provider, is looking for an IT Support Engineer to join their growing technical team in Gloucester.

This is a great opportunity for a capable 1st/2nd Line Engineer who wants to broaden their technical experience and take on more responsibility across Microsoft 365, networking, cloud technologies and infrastructure. Rather than being limited to service desk support, you'll have the opportunity to troubleshoot more complex issues, contribute to technical projects and occasionally visit customer sites to complete installations and resolve problems.

What you'll do:

  • Provide 1st and 2nd Line technical support across a varied customer base
  • Troubleshoot Microsoft 365, Windows and general infrastructure issues
  • Support Microsoft 365 administration, migrations and deployments
  • Work with Microsoft Intune and modern workplace technologies
  • Diagnose networking issues across IP addressing, routers, switches, Wi-Fi and connectivity
  • Assist with firewall configuration and troubleshooting
  • Support hardware, telecoms and VoIP environments
  • Take ownership of technical issues through to resolution
  • Complete installations, fixes and project work at customer sites when required
  • Contribute to larger technical projects, including Microsoft 365 migrations and infrastructure changes

You'll work closely with other engineers in an office-based technical team, sharing knowledge and helping deliver reliable support and project work for customers.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone who already has a good grounding in IT support and is ready to develop towards a stronger 2nd Line skill set.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Previous experience in a 1st/2nd Line or 2nd Line IT support position
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and support
  • An understanding of Microsoft Intune and modern workplace technologies
  • Good networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and routers
  • Experience troubleshooting network and connectivity issues
  • An understanding of firewall configuration and troubleshooting
  • Strong general Windows and hardware troubleshooting skills
  • The confidence to investigate unfamiliar technical problems
  • The ability to manage technical tasks and projects through to completion
  • Previous experience working for an MSP or IT services provider would be particularly valuable, although candidates coming from a strong internal IT support environment will also be considered.

Microsoft or networking certifications would be beneficial but aren't essential.

The opportunity:

Our client has been delivering IT and technology services for more than 20 years and supports businesses across a broad range of technologies.

The environment goes beyond traditional desktop support, with exposure to areas including:

  • Microsoft 365 and Intune
  • Cloud technologies
  • Networking and Wi-Fi
  • Firewalls and connectivity
  • VoIP and telecoms
  • Cyber security
  • PCs, laptops and wider IT hardware
  • Customer installations and infrastructure projects

It's an environment that will suit an engineer who enjoys learning, problem-solving and taking ownership, rather than simply escalating anything outside the standard support process.

Why join?

  • Salary up to £32,000, depending on experience
  • Broaden your experience across support, networking, cloud and infrastructure
  • Gain greater exposure to Microsoft 365 and modern workplace technologies
  • Work on customer projects rather than being limited to service desk tickets
  • Develop towards a stronger 2nd Line / Senior Support Engineer position
  • Join an established technical business with a varied customer base
  • Work alongside other engineers in a collaborative, office-based environment

If you're an IT Support Engineer looking to build your technical skills, take ownership of more challenging issues and gain exposure to project work, we'd be keen to hear from you.

How to prepare for a job interview at IMT Resourcing Solutions

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
