About the Role

The Head of Sales (Tier 2) leads a portfolio of established mid-to-large customers, balancing strategic account management with revenue growth and customer retention activities.

The role focuses on executing commercial strategy, developing customer relationships and maximising opportunities within a substantial and diverse portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver revenue, retention and margin targets.
  • Develop and implement annual sales plans.
  • Drive existing customer growth and new business opportunities.
  • Ensure effective pipeline management and forecasting.
  • Develop senior stakeholder relationships across assigned accounts.
  • Lead and develop account management and sales teams.
  • Monitor performance against objectives and KPIs.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement across the sales and account management function, promoting innovation, accountability and operational excellence.
  • Analyse sales performance data, customer feedback and market insights to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead initiatives to improve conversion rates, customer retention, revenue generation and sales productivity.
  • Work collaboratively with Customer Experience, Product, Operations and Finance teams to simplify processes and enhance the customer journey.
  • Support business transformation projects and the implementation of new products, services and commercial initiatives.

  • Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of operational sales management and customer portfolio growth.
  • Experience managing customer portfolios.
  • Understanding of private sector procurement processes.
  • Experience of complex, multi-stakeholder sales environments.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks impacting customers and markets.
  • Understanding of commercial transformation and organisational change programmes.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience in Business, Sales, Commercial Management, Marketing or a related discipline.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
  • Good level of expertise with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
  • Professional sales qualification (e. g. Institute of Sales Professionals, Chartered Institute of Marketing, Association of Professional Sales). (*)
  • Formal negotiation or key account management certification. (*)

Experience

  • Proven experience in the energy, utilities, metering, sustainability or technology sectors.
  • Sales or account management leadership experience.
  • Experience managing medium-sized sales teams.
  • Proven delivery of revenue and retention objectives.
  • Experience using Salesforce or equivalent Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, Hub Spot or SAP CRM.
