PURPOSE OF ROLE: As a Development Manager, you will lead the successful delivery of software solutions through the effective management of both internal and offshore development teams. This role is focused on leadership, delivery assurance, and technical oversight rather than hands‑on development. You will be responsible for ensuring that high‑quality, scalable, and secure solutions are delivered while building high‑performing teams and driving continuous improvement in engineering capability. Acting as a key interface between technical teams and stakeholders, you will ensure clear visibility of progress, risks, and delivery outcomes.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own and deliver successful outcomes across onshore and offshore development teams.
  • Provide technical oversight and constructively challenge design and architecture decisions.
  • Line manage team leads and senior engineers, supporting their development and performance.
  • Manage offshore suppliers, ensuring delivery quality, performance, and alignment to business expectations.
  • Assess team capability and structure, driving improvements to maximise effectiveness and delivery.
  • Ensure Agile delivery methodologies are effectively embedded and followed.
  • Provide clear reporting to stakeholders, including progress updates, risks, and escalation where required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Proven experience leading software development teams, including offshore resource management.
  • Strong technical understanding of software architecture and design principles.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Ability to review, assess, and challenge technical work effectively.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Understanding of SOLID design principles.
  • Experience building APIs using Swagger or OpenAPI.
  • Exposure to Azure PaaS services (e.g., Service Bus, Functions, APIM, Logic Apps, Data Factory).
  • Experience creating CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or YAML.
  • Experience with automated API testing tools such as Postman.
