BERMUDA. The client operates modern hospitals in Bermuda offering high standards of care from its international workforce. Bermuda is renowned for a very high standard of living, outdoor activities, historical towns, beautiful beaches and its wonderful climate. The client is now looking for a HYPERBARIC SAFETY OFFICER / TECHNICIAN for its hyperbaric chamber used for diving incidents and wound care. The role will be for varying length locum periods at various times throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures compliance with all applicable codes and standards and in particular NAPA99 and CSR standards for hyperbaric medicine.
- Reviews all department safety incidents, reports incidents to staff and to Quality Management.
- Works closely with Medical Staff, Critical Care Program Management Team, Facilities Management to develop policies and procedures, operation and maintenance strategies.
- Develops positive relationships with Jurisdictions Having Authority including Emergency Measures Organization, Bermuda Fire Services, Pressure Vessel Inspectors and others.
- Works with the Medical Director and Facilities Management for all chamber upgrades and equipment maintenance to ensure that all applicable safety standards are met.
- Conducts tests of all modifications prior to manned pressurization.
- Evaluates and maintains hyperbaric chamber equipment/supplies and ensures that they meet all fire safety requirements before they are permitted into the chamber.
- Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff and utilizes approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with a hyperbaric exposure to inert gasses.
- Informs personnel of any special work conditions such as infection control, hazards control, confined spaces, etc.
- Generates and supervises hyperbaric chamber safety drills which are tailored to improve staff response to emergency situations.
