We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Welding Engineer to lead welding activities and drive continuous improvement across site operations. Reporting to the Engineering and Technical Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing welding coordination, ensuring compliance with standards, and enhancing the site-wide welding management system. The Welding Engineer will play a key role in identifying root causes of welding issues, supporting day-to-day operations, and ensuring that all welding processes are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with industry best practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all welding activities across site
  • Act as the Responsible Welding Coordinator, ensuring compliance with applicable standards
  • Develop, implement, and enhance the site-wide welding management system
  • Investigate welding defects and issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
  • Provide technical support to production and engineering teams
  • Develop and maintain Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Ensure all welding activities comply with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing processes
  • Contribute to FMEA, Control Plans, and Engineering Change processes
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001

Key requirements

  • Degree-qualified (BEng/BSc) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Certified International/European Welding Engineer (IWE/EWE)
  • Proven experience in a similar Welding Engineer role
  • Experience within Engineering, Oil & Gas, or Renewables sectors
  • Strong background in setting up and maintaining welding systems and processes
  • Extensive experience in a manufacturing environment using large-scale equipment and advanced semi-automated welding technologies
  • Specialist knowledge of Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Practical experience with welding techniques including: FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), Submerged Arc Welding
  • Strong understanding of modern manufacturing processes, including: FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis), Control Plans, Engineering Change processes
  • Working knowledge of ISO standards: ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001
