Employee Relations Manager

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Employee Relations Manager to join our People Team, leaduing the delivery of a high-quality employee relations services across the organisation.

As a trusted specialist, you will play a key role in shaping our colleague experience, supporting leaders to manage people matters effectively, and ensuring fair, consistent and values-led approaches to employee relations across the business.

Working closely with People Partners, senior leaders and managers, you will provide expert advice on a broad range of complex employee relations matters, balancing colleague wellbeing, operation priorities and organisational risk. You will also use insight and data to identify trends, improve processes and strengthen management capability across the organisation.

We are looking for an experienced Employee Relations professional who combines strong employment law knowledge with sound judgement, excellent stakeholder management skills and a pragmatic, solution-focused approach. You will be comfortable handling complex and sensitive cases, coaching leaders and driving continuous improvement across the employee relations function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of a responsive, professional and values-led employee relations service across the organisation.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence, capability, conduct and other complex employee relations matters.
  • Support managers and leaders in resolving people issues effectively, fairly and in line with employment legislation and company policies.
  • Coach and develop management capability to promote early intervention and positive employee relations practices.
  • Use employee relations data, trends and insights to identify risks, inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and support organisational change activities, including restructures, consultation processes, redundancy programmes and TUPE transfers.
  • Develop, review and maintain employee relations policies, procedures and guidance to ensure legal compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Work closely with People Partners, Legal and operational stakeholders to deliver consistent and commercially focused outcomes.
  • Support the organisation in managing employment risk, including settlement agreements, complex case management and potential tribunal matters.
  • Monitor changes in employment legislation and best practice, translating these into practical recommendations and actions.
  • Contribute to wider People Team projects and initiatives that enhance colleague experience and organisational effectiveness.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Significant experience operating as an Employee Relations Manager, Senior Employee Relations Advisor or in a similar specialist HR role within a complex organisation.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK employment law and employee relations best practice.
  • Significant experience managing end-to-end employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, performance and absence management, settlement agreements, and Employment Tribunal preparation where required.
  • Experience supporting organisational change, consultation processes, restructures, redundancy exercises and TUPE activities.
  • Strong coaching, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility at all levels.
  • Experience using data and insight to identify trends, mitigate risks and improve people outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to balance commercial considerations with colleague experience and organisational values.
  • CIPD qualified, employment law qualified or able to demonstrate substantial relevant experience.

Desirable

  • Experience within healthcare, professional services or another regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions or business integration activities.
  • Experience working within a growing, fast-paced organisation.
  • Experience developing manager capability programmes and employee relations frameworks.
  • Familiarity with HR systems, workforce analytics and data-driven decision-making.
