Role Description

The CNC Turner is a full-time, on-site role based at Impress Group in Blaydon.

The role involves setting, operating, and programming CNC lathes to produce precision components to customer specifications, ensuring parts meet required tolerances and quality standards.

Day-to-day tasks include interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling and materials, performing in-process inspections, and adjusting machine settings to optimize performance.

The CNC Turner will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area, carrying out basic machine maintenance, and collaborating with colleagues in production and quality to meet delivery schedules.

The role also includes recording production data, identifying opportunities for process improvement, and supporting continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in CNC turning, including setting, operating, and (ideally) programming modern CNC lathes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and measurement data accurately.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring equipment (e. g., micrometers, verniers, gauges) and in-process quality checks.
  • Experience working with a variety of metals and alloys, including stainless steels and high-performance materials.
  • Good understanding of machining principles, cutting speeds and feeds, tooling selection, and work-holding methods.
  • Commitment to health and safety, housekeeping, and maintaining a well-organized, safe workshop environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment; apprenticeship or relevant vocational qualification is highly beneficial.
