Basic Purpose
IES are looking for an Engineer operating at a senior level who has success and experience in a technical sales role in our newly created Sales Engineer opportunity. You will play a crucial part in the sales process, acting as a bridge between a customer or prospect\’s technical resources and sales.
The ideal candidate will have a technical understanding of our sector e.g., Pharmaceutical, Semi-conductor, and experience in Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s). You will be selling technical services including but not limited to equipment installations, field service support, export packing and primarily to high tech companies in the Semiconductor, Pharmaceutical industries. You’ll ideally already be selling technical services and/or products into high technology manufacturing and Research & Development environments. This is a development opportunity to naturally progress to a Sales Manager role which doesn’t currently exist in our business so this really is an exciting opportunity.
As well as bringing technical expertise to the role, you will be responsible for managing existing customer relationships and identifying new sales opportunities. The role involves working closely with the sales team to achieve targets and contribute to the growth of the business.
This role reports directly to the Managing Director and Sales Director and covers a wide geography, based within our Head Office (Avonmouth, Bristol), visiting clients where necessary, so travel will be involved. It is imperative that you are able to quickly assimilate the dynamic of the Company to maximise both sales and business performance.
KEY TASKS
- Developing and building strong working relationships with internal teams such as customer service, marketing, production, engineering, etc.
- Follow-up leads in a timely manner
- Close orders within the required timeframe
- Provide leadership, motivation, and guidance to team members
- Develop strong relationships at Key Accounts and meet or exceed the annual sales targets
- Learn any unknown outstanding specialism areas within a set timeframe
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking and market research
- Collaborate with all departments to ensure the seamless execution of projects
- Prepare and present compelling proposals to potential clients
- Achieve and exceed sales targets through effective lead generation and conversion
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a sales team
- Attend and carry out site surveys providing technical advice
- Ensure IES CRM systems are kept up to date and used correctly
- Acting as the key link between customers and internal departments (e.g. engineering department) to ensure the smooth running of each project
- Managing the entire sales cycle, including after-sales service and upselling when possible
- Travel both within the UK and Europe to support business growth
- Ability to organise, lead and motivate in a sales environment
- May be required to complete other business activities on behalf of the company from time to time in line with identified skills, competencies and experience
SALES
- Contribute to maintenance of sales strategy
- Communicating cross-functionally with technical and engineering teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Timely and accurate completion of work to achieve individual targets
- Provide measurable reports on sales pipeline and progress
- Achieve sales growth in line with targets as communicated by Sales Director from time to time through lead generation and follow up of sales leads and enquiries
- Maintain existing customer base and develop repeat customers.
- Sales Experience: Minimum of 5 years preferred Technical Sales/Semiconductor industry
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in a manufacturing, engineering or warehousing environment preferred
- Previous field sales experience for technical services and/or products requiring technical advice as a Sales Engineer, Technical Sales Manager, UK Sales Manager, Area Sales Manager
- Exceptional organisational skills with very high attention to detail & strict confidentiality
- High standard of written & verbal communication, with a confident & professional phone manner
- Strong interpersonal skills

- Technically minded.
- Working and demonstratable understanding of industry/customer standards and industry best practice.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Additional and/or unsociable hours may be necessary when required
- Frequent travel away from home (UK & abroad) as required

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS
Salary/Rate: Negotiable and dependent on experience
Basic Hours: Monday to Friday, 0900-1700hrs
