Location: Glasgow in studio / Hybrid / Remote.

Role Type: Fixed Term Contract.

We’re looking for a Technical Artist to support our Unity game projects. This role sits at the intersection of art and engineering and is ideal for someone who enjoys working across a project, improving workflows, and making games look great while running efficiently. You’ll collaborate closely with a small, cross‑disciplinary team to implement visuals, build lightweight tools, optimise performance, and solve technical challenges across art, rendering, and content pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Expert knowledge of Unity and URP
  • Work with the art and code leads to set up lighting, materials, post‑processing, and render features
  • Maintain visual consistency and performance across target platforms
  • Create and maintain shaders using Shader Graph (and HLSL when needed)
  • Create and implement VFX
  • Streamline asset import and setup processes and maintain project structure
  • Create simple Unity editor tools and scripts in C# to improve art workflows
  • Help define and document best practices for art and technical pipelines
  • Optimise shaders, textures, meshes, lighting, and improve batching
  • Profile scenes and assets using Unity’s profiling tools
  • Work directly with artists, designers, and programmers in a small team
  • Provide technical guidance to artists and help solve day‑to‑day development issues
  • Participate in visual decision‑making and iteration

Required Qualifications

  • Production experience with Unity and URP
  • Strong knowledge of lighting techniques and the creation of visual effects
  • A deep understanding of shader creation for the Universal Render Pipeline
  • Familiarity with Unity profiling and optimization techniques
  • Understanding of 3D asset pipelines (models, UVs, textures, animations)
  • Experience with common DCC tools (3dsmax, Maya, Blender, Photoshop, Substance, etc.)
  • Proficiency in C# for Unity scripting and editor tools
  • A creative approach to problem solving and an eagerness to maintain a high‑quality bar
  • Up to date knowledge on latest technologies and the future Unity roadmap
  • Good visual judgment and attention to detail
  • Mentoring more junior members of the team
  • Familiarity with Git and other version control systems
  • Comfortable working in a small, fast‑moving team
  • Self‑motivated and able to own tasks from start to finish
  • Clear communicator who can bridge art, design and tech

Nice‑to‑Have

  • Knowledge of Switch and low‑end PC optimisation
  • Experience with stylised rendering
  • Experience with rigging, skinning and implementing characters and animation in Unity
