  • Location: Client sites across London & the South East + occasional time at our base (depending on project)

  • Contract Type: Apprenticeship (Installation & Maintenance Electrician pathway, tailored to BMS)
  • Salary: £17,000 - £35,000 (dependent on apprenticeship stage, ability, and progress)

Summary

Join Imperium as a BMS Installation Apprentice and learn how to install the electrical and control systems that run modern buildings; plant rooms, control panels, sensors, actuators, and the wiring that makes it all work safely and reliably. You will learn on live projects alongside experienced engineers, building real skills in electrical installation, quality workmanship, documentation, and teamwork. This role has a clear route to becoming a qualified installation engineer and progressing into senior or specialist positions.

Responsibilities

  • Working safely on construction sites and in plant rooms, following risk controls and site rules
  • Installing containment (tray, trunking, conduit) and planning neat cable routes
  • Pulling, dressing, labelling, and securing cables for mains power and control wiring
  • Assisting with installing and wiring control panels, isolators, power supplies, and BMS field devices (sensors, valves, actuators, etc.)
  • Supporting inspection and testing activities by preparing equipment and accurately recording results under direction
  • Producing tidy as installed documentation (photos, marked-up drawings, schedules) to support handover and commissioning
  • Communicating clearly with supervisors and other trades to coordinate work and resolve issues early

  • Practical and hands-on, with strong attention to detail
  • Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a team
  • Comfortable working on active construction sites and in plant rooms
  • Organised enough to keep labels, photos and basic records tidy and accurate

Requirements

  • Essential
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willingness to travel to client sites across London & the South East
  • A genuine interest in electrical work, building services, controls, or engineering
  • GCSEs (or equivalent): Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or willingness to achieve Functional Skills during the apprenticeship if needed)
  • Nice To Have (not Required)
    • Any site or trade exposure (school projects, DIY, cadets, part-time work, etc.)
    • Basic IT confidence (using apps, photos, and simple digital documentation)

    Tools & Support

    We will help you get set up with the right kit for the job. As you progress, you will build out your toolset with guidance from your supervisor and the team.

    Location & Commitments

    • Travel: Regular travel to client sites across London & the South East
    • Hours: Typically 08:00-17:00; occasional early/late shifts during key installation windows (with notice)
    • Physical environment: Plant rooms, ladders, and moving equipment; reasonable adjustments considered
