We are recruiting an experienced operational waste enforcement leader with deep, hands-on expertise in environmental protection and waste enforcement. You will lead frontline teams investigating fly-tipping, illegal dumping and wider environmental crime, exercising statutory powers under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and associated legislation. This is an operational delivery role with direct accountability for investigations, enforcement outcomes and team performance.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and manage operational waste enforcement teams delivering fly-tipping and waste crime investigations.
- Direct the use of statutory powers under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, including Duty of Care.
- Oversee evidence gathering, interviews, case files, fixed penalty notices and prosecutions.
- Work closely with legal services, cleansing, highways, housing and external partners.
- Drive visible improvements in compliance, deterrence and environmental quality.
- Maintain robust performance reporting, governance and operational grip.
Essential experience:
- Proven leadership of operational environmental or waste enforcement teams within a local authority or regulatory setting.
- Direct experience investigating fly-tipping, illegal dumping and waste crime.
- Strong working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and related enforcement powers.
- Experience preparing cases for prosecution and managing enforcement outcomes.
