A forward-thinking Local Authority is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Solicitor to join its established legal team and play a key role supporting major planning, regeneration and infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to work at the heart of local government decision-making, advising senior officers and elected members on matters that directly shape communities and the built environment.
Responsibilities
- You will provide specialist legal advice across a broad range of planning, highways and licensing matters, supporting the delivery of significant regeneration and development projects.
- Working closely with senior officers, planners and elected members, you will play an important role in ensuring that complex projects are delivered with strong legal foundations.
- Advising planning officers on major planning applications, redevelopment schemes and regeneration projects.
- Drafting and negotiating complex planning agreements and highway agreements.
- Providing legal advice on compulsory purchase orders, appropriation and land assembly.
- Attending and advising at Planning Committees and Licensing Sub-Committee hearings.
- Advising senior stakeholders on legal risk, governance and statutory obligations.
- Managing appeals, judicial reviews, public inquiries and tribunal proceedings.
- Instructing and managing external counsel where required.
- Supporting the delivery of strategic regeneration initiatives and infrastructure projects.
About You
- Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX in England and Wales.
- Strong experience advising on planning law and regeneration matters.
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex planning and highway agreements.
- A strong understanding of local government law and planning legislation.
- Experience advising senior officers and stakeholders on complex legal matters.
- The ability to deliver clear, pragmatic and commercially minded legal advice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
