We are working with a London Local Authority looking to appoint an exceptionally strong Interim Director of Housing Services. This is a senior operational housing role with responsibility for leading a large and complex service through a significant period of improvement and organisational change. The remit is focused on housing services and does not include new-build development or corporate property and estates.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Providing clear and visible leadership across housing management and landlord services
  • Leading repairs, building safety, compliance and disrepair
  • Driving a full housing restructure and strengthening service performance
  • Improving accountability, information management and operational grip
  • Ensuring the service meets its statutory and regulatory responsibilities
  • Providing strategic oversight of the HRA
  • Working closely with elected members, senior officers, residents and external partners

We are looking for someone with recent experience operating at Director, Corporate Director or Executive Director level within local authority housing. You must have substantial experience across repairs, compliance, disrepair and housing management, together with a strong track record of leading complex service improvement or restructuring programmes. The successful candidate will be politically astute, comfortable working in a changing and politically sensitive environment and willing to maintain a highly visible on-site presence. Attendance will be required for a minimum of three to four days per week and may be higher during the initial handover period.
