The Opportunity

A well-established firm of Chartered Accountants based in Wilmslow is looking to recruit an experienced Accounts Semi Senior to specialise in preparing accounts for GP practices.

GP practices typically operate as complex partnerships, making this an excellent opportunity for an accountancy practice professional who would like to develop valuable specialist expertise.

The successful candidate will initially join the firm’s dedicated GP hub, where experienced senior colleagues will provide structured training in the preparation of GP accounts. The aim is for the successful recruit to develop into a confident, standalone GP Accounts Senior within approximately two years.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing annual accounts for GP practices and complex partnerships
• Developing an understanding of the specialist accounting requirements affecting medical practices
• Working within the GP hub and learning from experienced senior team members
• Reviewing accounting records and identifying missing or outstanding information
• Communicating with clients regarding accounting queries and information requirements
• Ensuring assignments are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines
• Maintaining clear and up-to-date client records
• Preparing general accounts work during quieter periods
• Producing accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
• Preparing financial statements under FRS 102 Section 1A and FRS 105
• Preparing corporation tax returns, including CT600s
• Taking increasing responsibility for assignments as knowledge and experience develop

Skills and Experience

• Previous accounts preparation experience within a firm of Chartered Accountants or accountancy practice
• Experience preparing partnership accounts
• A good understanding of accounts preparation for sole traders and limited companies
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Confidence communicating directly with clients
• Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines
• A willingness to develop specialist knowledge of GP and medical accounts
• AAT qualified, part-qualified, qualified by experience or studying towards a relevant professional qualification
• Previous experience preparing GP accounts would be advantageous but is not essential, as specialist training will be provided

Training and Progression

The successful candidate will receive structured, hands-on training within the firm’s specialist GP hub. Experienced senior colleagues will provide guidance on the technical and practical aspects of preparing GP practice accounts.

The position offers a clearly defined development route, with the intention that the successful recruit will progress into a standalone GP Accounts Senior role within approximately two years.
