Nice is a rather simple adjective, but it is probably one of the best ones to describe our North London-based trading client. Lacking the typical ego that accompanies many trading desks, these guys are down to earth whilst remaining switched on and very successful in their markets. Through recent investment and a longstanding tradition of stable and organic growth, the firm is now in the process of reinforcing their back office team further through the hire of an associate/mid-level operations and logistics executive.

Imperium Commodity Search is proud to be confidentially retained on this exciting growth project with our client; one of the oldest soft commodity and ingredients trading houses in London. With a fascinating history across edible nuts, there are a number of artifacts, photos and documentation in the office weaving an almost romantic portrait of their longstanding history in the supply of ingredients and edible nuts into London and Europe.

You will be supporting the long-standing trading team across edible nuts and soft commodity operations, with a shiny new ERP/Logistics software system that makes things a breeze and reduces lots of the unnecessary admin that accompanies some desks. Getting to know your trader(s) and their books/clients, you will be interacting with clients on shipping updates, as well as liaising with third party warehousing, shipping and logistics providers on bookings, documentation and updates.

This is a proper family business, with a close knit culture and a very well supported front to back office dynamic. Currently operating on a 1:1 ratio between traders and operations folk, this is a role that shares in success and works closely as a team unit in an open plan office. If you are currently on a desk where you are dealing with an in-tray up to the ceiling, with little teamwork or recognition, this opportunity could well be the antidote.

Benefits:

  • Comped lunches as a team on a Friday
  • Open-plan office, with a friendly but hardworking environment
  • Annual percentage-based bonus for back office/operations staff
  • Very low attrition rate with long-standing traders and client relationships
  • Enhanced annual leave
  • North London based office; outside the city with excellent access to shops and transport links
  • Very stable and steadily growing organisation

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Submit trading slips and shipping documentation into the internal trade capture system
  • Work with traders on ensuring shipping instructions are set, sent and delivered to relevant shipping and logistics providers
  • Forward shipping and booking confirmations to clients where required, and update them on shipment progress where queries or delays arise
  • Manage documentation across the logistics and operations remit of the soft commodity trading business ensuring all is submitted into the system and updated where required
  • Arrange and manage spot release/delivery of warehouse-stored goods (soft commodities, nuts, seeds, ingredients etc.)
  • Liaise and communicate documentation to banks for outward collections and ensure invoicing documentation is complete and timely for all shipments and deliveries

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • 2+ years of experience in a commodity trading operations, physical trade support or commodity logistics role
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
  • A good understanding of ERP/Logistics software systems
  • A down-to-earth and communicative persona
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • A thorough understanding of containerised commodity/ingredient/food industry product shipping and logistics processes and procedures
