We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 nurse to join our Adult Emergency Department as a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse / Sister. This is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain experience coordinating patient flow, leading shifts, supporting junior staff, and contributing to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
The successful candidate will be a Registered Adult Nurse with significant ED experience, strong clinical skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You will act as a role model for colleagues and help support the delivery of safe, effective emergency care in a fast-paced environment.

Main duties of the job

• Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
• Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of patient care.
• Plan, organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload in order to meet patient needs. Manage effective flows of patients within Emergency Services to meet NHS targets.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
• Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
• Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students and junior staff, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
• To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
• Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to Emergency Nursing as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse / Clinical Nurse Manager.
• Take responsibility for self-development through the appraisal system and work towards completing agreed personal development plan.

Education/ Qualifications

• Full valid UK NMC Adult registration
• Post-qualification education in Emergency Nursing or equivalent experience
• Practice assessor course ILS
• Critical Care Transfer Course
• ALS
• Leadership course
• PGD course
• IRMER course

Experience

• Demonstrable significant experience in A&E as a registered nurse
• Experience of taking charge of the department and managing patient flow
• Experience of working in a minor injuries unit

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

• Good level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills
• Triage competent, requiring supervision
• Experience with audit and research
