The Haematology Department provides comprehensive outpatient, ambulatory and specialist lymphoma services from a facility located on the ground floor of the Catherine Lewis Centre. The outpatient unit includes seven consulting rooms, dedicated areas for phlebotomy, bone marrow biopsies, counselling and high-risk procedures. Patients are welcomed by specialist reception staff, while modern diagnostic technology enables rapid investigation and treatment. Full blood counts are performed within the clinic using an automated analyser linked to the main diagnostic laboratory. A vacuum transport system ensures transfer of samples and results between the outpatient department and laboratory services. Approximately 75 patients are seen each day.
The outpatient area is directly connected to the Day Care and Ambulatory Care Unit. Facilities include beds for apheresis procedures, acute patient care, sedated bone marrow biopsies and chemotherapy treatment, together with reclining chairs for blood product transfusions and systemic anti-cancer therapies. The unit treats up to 30 patients daily and operates 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
The lymphoma service is delivered by 3.8 whole-time equivalent consultants and 2.5 clinical nurse specialists. The team provides local and regional care including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, CAR-T therapy, and specialist services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
- To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
- To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities.
- To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
- To work with colleagues to provide medical leadership of clinical and laboratory aspects of transfusion practice at ICHNT, and to work with clinical teams to develop practices for the safe and effective use of blood and the use of transfusion alternatives.

Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent GMC registered
- Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- MRCP AND FRCPath or equivalent
- Higher degree (MD or PhD)
Knowledge & Skills
- Specialist training in clinical haematology
- Experience in the management of lymphoma
- IT skills and computer literacy
- Experience in CART
- Experience in autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplant
- Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority

Language
