Imperial Recruitment Group are working exclusively with Middlesbrough College who are looking to appoint a HR Assistant on a temporary on-going basis.
Purpose
The HR Officer/Assistant will provide proactive, high-quality support within a busy and fast-paced HR team, working closely with the HR Advisor to deliver an efficient, responsive and people-focused service. The role offers an excellent opportunity for professional development, supporting a broad range of HR activities and gaining exposure to all areas of operational HR.
The postholder will be responsible for delivering effective day-to-day HR administration, including:
- Supporting formal employee relations meetings through accurate minute-taking.
- Managing HR inboxes.
- Maintaining spreadsheets and workforce data.
- Assisting with sickness monitoring and probation processes.
- Supporting discussions with new employees regarding medical adjustments.
- Providing routine advice and guidance to staff and managers under the direction of the HR Advisor.
This role plays a key part in ensuring consistent standards, timely responses and a positive colleague experience across the HR function. It is ideally suited to someone looking to build a long-term career in HR - someone proactive, motivated, switched on, and confident working with sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner.
Duties
- Support HR Advisors by preparing documentation for formal meetings and attending hearings to provide accurate, confidential minute-taking.
- Maintain clear and up-to-date casework trackers, ensuring follow-up actions are completed in a timely manner.
- Provide initial advice and guidance to managers on low-level HR queries, referring more complex issues to the HR Advisor.
- Review sickness absence data, highlight trends and flag cases reaching trigger points in accordance with College policy.
- Provide basic guidance to managers on next steps when sickness triggers are met, ensuring clear and timely escalation.
- Support the HR team in producing reports, maintaining accurate absence records, and ensuring documentation is stored in line with audit requirements.
- Assist with the administration of maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave processes, ensuring timely provision of information to employees and managers.
- Prepare letters, update records and track deadlines relating to family-friendly leave.
- Support the processing of flexible working applications, ensuring correct documentation, deadlines and communication with managers.
- Provide high-quality administrative support across the full range of HR activities.
- Draft letters, update forms, collate data and maintain confidential records to a high standard.
- Support HR Advisors with probation processes.
- Support HR projects, audits and reviews as required.
Experience
- Experience of working within a HR, administrative or compliance-based role.
- Experience prioritising workload and managing multiple tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrable experience maintaining accurate records, spreadsheets and HR systems.
- Experience of handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Experience providing administrative support such as drafting letters, tracking deadlines, and coordinating documentation.
