Imperial Recruitment Group are delighted to announce that we are working with one of our high-profile clients to appoint a Head of Process & Technical Engineering on a permanent basis.
Overview of the role:
The purpose of the Head of Process & Technical role is to be ultimately responsible for the Process/ Technical department, its delivery against business plan, and the implementation of the business strategy. The role is a management position and requires good communication with other Head of Departments to support the business wide delivery. The role is key in determining how the business strategy can/ should be implemented, working closely into the Group Technical Director.
Responsibilities are but not limited to:
- Ensure all output from the Process/ Technical team complies with project specification and statutory regulation, confirming all safety aspects of the design are achieved.
- Oversee the production of process system design, including validation of the following non-exhaustive list of deliverables; technical specifications, process/ technical calculations (volume, rates, speeds etc), design reports, PFD's, P&ID's, and equipment lists/ RFQ's/ selection.
- Host design reviews of process/ technical systems to confirm alignment with specification as required.
- Checking and Approval of all process/ technical scopes of work and/ or specifications.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) duties for all business operations.
- Ensure project resources are scheduled and controlled accurately, forecasting duration to completion of task, reporting on time delivery (OTD), schedule adherence, and supporting the project team with budget control in the respective area.
- Raise requests for additional resource, or changes to existing resource in a timely manner.
- Prepare quotation estimates for robust delivery logic through department, and ensure the department is tracking the execution on award.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to the projects and bids teams, as required.
- Ensure process/ technical element of project progress vs bid is monitored and provide a report summary to the Group Technical Director on a weekly basis.
- Promote cost reduction, value engineering, standardisation, and risk reduction.
- Shared ownership of the business ISO 9001 processes, and responsible for incremental reviews and revisions as necessary to ensure a quality, right-first-time delivery is provided. Ensure the department is operating in accordance with these processes.
- Management of department NCRs and prepare plans for improvements, monitoring effectiveness.
- Identify and promote continuous improvement initiatives to increase departmental design capabilities and improve efficiency.
- Team Management.
- Host departmental meetings to communicate successes, issues, opportunities, and lessons learned.
- Owner of the departmental SQEP matrix and training plans.
- Engagement with customers, sub-contractors, and suppliers accordingly.
- Any other ad hoc duties as may be required, and as commensurate with the grade of post.
To be considered for the role you will have:
- BEng (Hons) in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Chemical Engineering).
- Strong experience of process system design and delivery.
- Experience managing engineering teams on projects of value > £5m.
- Strong knowledge of the construction & process industries and applicable standards.
- Understanding of control system operating principles.
- Experienced in effective Change Management implementation as well as planning, managing, and reporting project tasks and responsibilities.
- Strong attention to detail and committed to quality performance/ output.
- Ability to apply logic to programmes, and resource the delivery thereof accordingly.
- Identification of issues and correlate timely remedials/ mitigations with the wider project/ business.
- Ability to assess situations quickly, diffuse confrontation, and drive pragmatic decisions.
- Strong communicator with internal and external customers alike, with good presentation skills.
