LOCATION: Darlington / Hybrid

ROLE SUMMARY: As a Design Engineer, you will take the lead in designing and developing cutting-edge ROV trenching systems and components. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure that project specifications are met, and designs are executed efficiently.
DUTIES ARE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Leading structural and mechanical engineering design projects from concept through to manufacturing.
- Develop specifications and concepts that align with user needs and project goals.
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations to support design decisions.
- Create detailed technical drawings and design documentation using 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD, MathCAD and Inventor).
- Conduct design reviews and simulations to validate concepts and improve designs.
- Overseeing structural analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and power transmission systems and machinery design.
- Conduct FMECA, HAZOP, HAZID and safety by design reviews.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations throughout the design process.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project specifications are met efficiently.
- Ensuring the suitability of designs for subsea and harsh environments, considering material science, corrosion effects, and hydraulic sealing systems.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and System Integration Testing (SIT).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL HAVE:
- Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience in subsea engineering or related fields, specifically focusing on ROV or trenching tool design is preferred.
- Expertise in structural analysis, free body diagrams, scoping calculations, and FEA (Ansys/SolidWorks Simulation).
- Strong knowledge of mechanisms, kinematics, hydraulics, power transmission, and manufacturing techniques.
- Experience with material selection, corrosion protection, hydraulic sealing systems, and inspection/testing requirements.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, MathCAD and Inventor) is essential.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Experience managing projects from concept to completion in a technical environment.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
- Working knowledge of DNV design codes for lifting appliances and marine operations.
- Experience producing welding, machining and assembly drawings.
