As a Preservation Technician at IWM, you will delivery preservation activities including integrated pest management, environmental monitoring, and conservation cleaning. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly team delivering preventive conservation activities across the three London branches of the Imperial War Museum: Lambeth Road, Churchill War Rooms and HMS Belfast.
Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing and delivering a programme of conservation cleaning for objects on display and in stores
- Providing support to the museum’s busy Exhibition and Film programme
- Maintaining the Collections Emergency Response Equipment and participating in audits.
- Maintaining electronic and paper-based records of work done
- Supervising volunteers and contractors who help deliver our work and provide training when necessary
Please note: this role will involve some working at height, for which training will be given. The role will be based at IWM’s Lambeth Road site, but will include occasional travel to the museum’s other branches.
The ideal candidate will have some experience from working in museum collections / museum housekeeping and/or Preservation/Conservation, alongside an interest in 20th-century history. They should be able to demonstrate good manual dexterity and a methodical approach, as well as the capacity to work from ladders at heights of up to 15 metres.
