You'll join a collaborative, supportive Communications team that plays a vital role in connecting our people to our mission and to one another. We're committed to creativity, openness, and delivering high‐quality work that engages staff across all five IWM branches.

Why This Role Matters

Internal communication is at the heart of how IWM brings its strategy, culture and major organisational projects to life for its people. Over the next 12 months, we will be launching significant initiatives including a new Vision & Purpose for IWM, major HR and IT developments, and organisation‐wide change programmes. As Communications Manager (Internal), you will lead the strategy, planning and delivery of internal communications that help our colleagues stay informed, engaged and connected. Your work will have a direct impact on staff engagement, organisational clarity and the success of some of IWM's most important programmes.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the development and delivery of IWM's internal communications strategy across all branches and departments.
  • Managing internal communications platforms and content, including newsletters, intranet pages, staff updates and digital tools.
  • Supporting major organisational programmes including IWM's new Vision & Purpose project, HR Strategy, IT developments and Access & Inclusion initiatives.
  • Advising senior leaders and drafting high‐level or sensitive communications, including change‐related messaging.
  • Overseeing content for Executive Leadership Team events and engagement activity.
  • Working with the Internal Communications Officer and Communications Officer (Corporate) to plan, produce and schedule communications.
  • Developing approaches to reach colleagues who are mobile, remote or "hard to reach", ensuring consistent and inclusive communication.
  • Evaluating communication activity and presenting insights to leadership teams.
  • Building strong relationships across all branches to champion a culture of clear, timely and effective internal communication.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong internal communications experience, ideally in a complex or multi‐site organisation.
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging and sensitive communications.
  • Experience working closely with senior stakeholders and providing trusted advice.
  • Confidence managing multiple projects and communications channels simultaneously.
  • Experience working with intranets, digital communication tools, and e‐newsletters.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively across teams and maintain positive working relationships.
  • A proactive, organised and creative approach to problem‐solving.
  • Desirable Experience in the heritage, culture or arts sector; or experience developing internal video content.

How You'll Work

You'll work closely with colleagues across People & Culture, Communications, Audience Insight, Executive Leadership, and project teams to ensure internal communications are aligned, timely and impactful. You'll also collaborate with teams across all IWM branches, ensuring our communications reach and represent the entire organisation.

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • A clear, consistent and engaging internal communications strategy embedded across all IWM branches.
  • Well‐planned and well‐received communications supporting the rollout of key organisational initiatives.
  • Strong, confident relationships established with senior leaders and cross‐departmental teams.
  • Improved visibility, accessibility and effectiveness of internal communication platforms, including the intranet.
  • Staff report feeling well‐informed and connected during periods of change.
  • Communications activity is supported by clear insights, data and evaluation.
