You’ll be joining a collaborative and supportive team who are passionate about access to knowledge and delivering excellent public services. It’s an environment where curiosity, learning, and teamwork are valued every day.

Why This Role Matters

This role plays an important part in helping people access and understand IWM’s collections. You’ll support researchers, staff, and the public to explore materials that inform academic study, creative work, and personal projects. As an apprentice, you’ll build the skills and experience needed for a career in libraries, archives, or the cultural sector—while contributing to a high-quality research and information service that supports the museum’s wider mission.

  • Contribute to the development of digital library services and online resources
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as record keeping, rotas, and departmental coordination
  • Help manage enquiries via email, phone, and internal systems, escalating where needed

  • Work with colleagues across departments and assist with events and activities

What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Maths and English at Level 1 (or equivalent)
  • Experience working or volunteering in a busy, customer‑facing or public environment
  • A genuine interest in libraries, museums, or working with collections
  • Strong communication and basic numeracy skills
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • A positive, team‑focused mindset with a willingness to learn

The role involves regular interaction with researchers and members of the public, both in person and remotely. Collaboration is central to how we work—you’ll be supported to learn, develop, and gradually take on more responsibility as your confidence grows.
