As a Curator you will join a diverse professional team united by a shared belief in the power of our collections, where expertise is valued and ideas are welcomed. You will work with and be supported by teams across Curatorial and Collections Care, with additional support from our wider museum teams.
Why this role matters
IWM holds some of the world\βs most significant collections relating to 20th and 21st century conflict. You will play a key role in improving the documentation and accountability of IWM\βs hazardous and licensed materials and medal collections, improving accessibility and meeting required standards. This is an opportunity to make a difference to how our audiences connect with these collections and the often deeply personal stories associated with them.
Core responsibilities
- Ensure that all records meet inventory standards
- Work with colleagues to standardise catalogue data to ensure it meets the needs of its users
- Work with colleagues to identify items for potential review
- Resolve object queries
- Enhance existing content and historical information in the object records
What we are looking for
We would love to hear from you if you have:
Required
- A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent knowledge built up through experience
- A strong general grounding in the history and material culture of 20th and 21st century conflict
- A general understanding of IWM\βs remit
- Knowledge and experience of the legal, ethical and professional frameworks in which IWM operates
- Experience of collections review activity
- Experience of conducting research
- Experience of resource planning and delivery, including working to tight deadlines
- Working knowledge of a collections management system such as Axiell Collections
- Familiar with Microsoft Office, email and the internet
Desirable
- Knowledge and experience of collections such as medals and currency
How you\βll work
You will work with colleagues to deliver this vital documentation project, working on site for the majority of the time, including in the collections stores. You will attend regular meetings to report on and track progress made throughout the project and you will expected to work collaboratively and openly throughout.
What success looks like
By the end of the project you will have met or exceeded the project\βs data improvement aims.
The collections will be fully accountable with increased accessibility.
