This four-month role offers an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Collections Registration team at IWM Duxford as a Collections Assistant. You will work across departments and sites, gaining hands-on experience with a variety of essential museum practices. Along the way, you will see how different specialisms collaborate to care for and interpret the museum's collection.
Responsibilities Include:
- Carrying out the documentation of IWMβs handling and props collections
- Researching the collection to understand the provenance of each item to contribute to a collections review
- Working collaboratively with other teams including conservators, curators, exhibitions and learning & engagement
- Assessing the collections, identifying potential hazards (training will be provided), and preparing items for safe transport
- Ensuring all items are documented, researched and, where applicable, exited according to museum procedures
The ideal Collections Assistant candidate will have some experience of handling, packing, documenting and researching collections, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and other data-management software. Please note this is a fixed-term contract for four months only, based at IWM Duxford.
