Overview of the role: The Technical Buyer is responsible for ensuring goods and services are ordered and delivered on time, within budget and to the correct specification and quality requirements. The Technical Buyer is responsible for the entire procurement lifecycle, including:
- Interpretation of the requirements (scope)
- Supplier selection (capability)
- Contract & cost negotiation (terms)
- Ensuring the purchased item(s) or service(s) is delivered on time and to scope
At project buying level, the Technical Buyer will support the creation of the procurement plan, to deliver optimised buying strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Technical interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications to determine efficient and cost effective RFQ sourcing
- Review purchase specification requirements, identifying potential suppliers based on capability, reputation, quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Function as technical liaison between Project Engineer and Supplier to ensure RFQ detail is fit for purpose and meets scope requirements
- Provide the necessary support and guidance to meet stakeholder and project requirements.
- Ensure procurement processes conform with ISO frameworks
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to ensure supplier
