You will support the Senior Sous Chef in preparing delicious, high-quality food that consistently delights Imperial’s diverse customers. You’ll help create and develop exciting new dishes while following all food safety, hygiene, and departmental standards. You’ll also use resources responsibly, contribute to financial targets, maintain a safe kitchen, and work closely with colleagues to deliver an efficient service.
What you would be doing
You will l take pride in maintaining consistently high standards of food production, using a wide range of basic, complex, and modern cooking techniques. You will monitor the quality of dishes and junior team members’ work, assist with menu development, support ordering, and prepare and deliver fine-dining events to agreed specifications.
Working closely with the Senior Sous Chef, Catering Operations Managers, and Supervisors, you’ll help create menus that reflect Imperial’s diverse customers and meet both internal and external client needs. You will also monitor food waste and labour costs, follow dish specifications, use the ordering system effectively, and suggest improvements where needed.
You will help maintain a safe, efficient, and positive kitchen environment by following health and safety, HACCP, and COSHH procedures, checking equipment, and reporting faults or quality concerns promptly. With a flexible, can-do attitude, you’ll provide courteous service and support hospitality operations across different campuses and sites.
What we are looking for
- Ideally a formal qualification in Catering (minimum of City and Guilds Certificate 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent) or a desire to work within the Catering industry, proven by the willingness to acquire a formal Catering Qualification
- Minimum of a Level 3 Food Hygiene Qualification
- Fine dining cooking and menu development within prestigious events venues/corporate hospitality/restaurants
- Previous experience of working in a team within a highly pressurised and similar kitchen environment
- Familiarity with current food trends within the fine dining, HE and contract catering sectors
- An understanding of regularly used fine dining ingredients
- A responsible attitude towards health and safety at work
- Physically able to operate different equipment/machinery and lift objects of varying loads
- Ability to deliver to simultaneous tight deadlines, applying good planning and organisational skills
- Very good command of verbal English proven by the attainment of a basic level English language course, to be able to understand basic instructions and communicate effectively with customers, including staff, students and visitors
- A high level of personal hygiene
