An exciting opportunity has arisen for a post as a Technician within the Surgery and Cancer Department.

The purpose of this post is to provide high-level technical expertise in support of cutting-edge research focused on non-invasive diagnostics using volatile organic compound (VOC) analysis. The post holder will work within a dynamic and collaborative research group, contributing to a portfolio of clinical and translational studies applying breath and skin VOC analysis to the early diagnosis and monitoring of diseases including cancer and neurological conditions.

What you would be doing

As a Research Technician you will:

  • Perform VOC analysis using state-of-the-art analytical platforms including GC-ToF-MS, GC-FID, SIFT-MS, and thermal desorption techniques
  • Collect, prepare and process biological samples such as breath and skin swabs, following standardised protocols and rigorous quality control procedures
  • Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation, ensuring optimal performance at all times
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for analytical methods and sample handling
  • Support data acquisition, processing and quality control using relevant software platforms
