About the role:
The Department of Materials at Imperial College London is seeking a proactive and experienced Teaching Operations Manager to join our team on a fixed-term maternity cover basis for approximately 12–15 months.
Based at our South Kensington Campus, this pivotal role ensures the smooth delivery of our undergraduate (BEng/MEng) and postgraduate taught (MSc) programmes, supporting both staff and students through effective teaching administration.
As the senior member of the teaching support team, you will lead and develop key administrative functions that underpin our educational mission. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you’ll line manage a collaborative team and work closely with academic leads, tutors, administrative colleagues, and external stakeholders. You will oversee day-to-day operations including timetabling, student communications, exams and assessment processes, and key College systems. This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, dynamic environment
What you would be doing
- Lead and streamline all aspects of teaching operations across undergraduate and MSc programmes.
- Manage admissions administration, timetabling, exam operations, and student records.
- Oversee and support the Student Office team, ensuring high performance and development.
- Enhance the student experience by improving communications, processes, and support systems.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders including academic leads, Registry, and teaching staff.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and College requirements (e.g., GDPR, Tier 4 monitoring).
- Lead operational improvements to reduce administrative burden on academic staff.
- Represent the department in relevant College and faculty-level forums.
What we are looking for
- Proven experience in a similar teaching operations or academic administration role, ideally within higher education.Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to work across teams and with senior stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Experience with systems such as Banner, Blackboard, MS Teams, Panopto, or similar is highly desirable

Further information
This is normally a full-time, campus-based role. While we ask that the postholder is available for on-site working five days of the week, particularly during term time, there may be some flexibility for hybrid working, subject to operational needs.
