About the role
Are you ready to tell impactful stories on social media that engage the next generation of global scientists, engineers and innovators? As our Senior Social Media Officer, you will lead the planning and coordination of social media content across a range of channels that showcases what it’s like to study at the world’s #2 university (QS World University Rankings 2026). Aligning content to our student recruitment priorities, you will manage a dynamic workload that delivers engaging and inclusive content to help prospective students discover more about life at the UK’s only university to focus exclusively on courses in sciences, engineering, medicine and business.
What you would be doing
- You will plan and deliver creative, cross‑channel social media campaigns that support student recruitment in the UK and globally.
- You will create compelling content – from spotting the latest trends to developing insightful short‑form video and stories – that showcases student life and the benefits of an Imperial degree education.
- You will manage day‑to‑day social media activity, including scheduling content, engaging with prospective students and monitoring conversations.
- You will use data and insights to measure success, optimise content and continuously improve performance.
- You will collaborate with colleagues across the university to align and amplify key messaging.
- You will lead and support student content creators, bringing authentic voices into our storytelling.
- You will manage a Social Media assistant, external creative suppliers & contribute to campaign planning and delivery.
- You will support events such as Open Days and wider campaigns, helping translate in‑person experiences into digital engagement.
What we are looking for
- Social media expert with a deep understanding of how to develop and create engaging content and a track record for delivering successful social media campaigns.
- Strong storytelling and content creation skills across digital platforms.
- Confidence using analytics and data to inform decisions & improve outcomes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects & deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with a wide range of stakeholders.

This is a full‑time maternity cover role, normally not less than 35 hours per week, lasting up to 12 months. Hybrid working is available in line with Imperial policy – our usual anchor days are Mondays and Thursdays in Imperial’s Professional Services Hub in the Mediaworks in White City, London.
