An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for a Research Section and MSc Programme Administrator. This key role will support the Geotechnics Section across all aspects of research administration and MSc programme delivery. The post holder will provide Personal Assistant (PA) support to the Head of Section, assist academic staff with key responsibilities within the Section, and offer guidance and administrative support to academic staff, research staff, PhD students, and MSc students. This is a full-time, open-ended post.

What you would be doing

  • The post holder will be responsible for a range of tasks which fall into the two main categories:
  • Research Section Administration
    • Providing administrative and Personal Assistant (PA) support to the Head of Section and academic staff.
    • Managing operational tasks such as meetings, recruitment, travel, and office logistics.
    • Supporting communications, finance processes, and website updates.
  • Student and Course Administration
    • Assisting with admissions, onboarding, and student records.
    • Coordinating exams, course materials, and guest lecturers.
    • Acting as a key point of contact for student enquiries and welfare.

What we are looking for

  • You will be educated to A level standard (or equivalent). A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) is desirable.
  • You will also have experience of working in a busy administrative role, preferably within an academic environment, including general office support, making travel arrangements, organising and minuting meetings.
  • Postgraduate administrative experience is desirable, and experience of handling a high volume of enquiries in a customer-facing role is essential.
  • You will have a high level of experience and capability in using MS Office 365 along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
