Job Description:

The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to carry out experimental measurements and modelling of the thermophysical properties of hydrogen. The project, funded by the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research, aims to support the development of flow standards for liquefied energy gases.

The project will focus on precise measurements of the speed of sound in liquefied and supercritical hydrogen to determine the ratio of ortho- and para-spin isomers. These measurements will be complemented by on-line Raman spectrometer data on the ortho-para ratio. Collaboration with European partners on other thermophysical property measurements, including LNG density, will also be part of the role.

Qualifications and skills required include:

  • Experience in thermophysical-property measurement within a research environment
  • Strong publication record in relevant refereed journals
  • Knowledge of thermodynamic and transport properties of fluids
  • Ability to review literature thoroughly
  • Ability to conduct experimental risk assessments
