We are looking for a Research Associate or Research Assistant to join a research programme studying how the immune system responds to changes in lipid metabolism. Our lab focuses on understanding the biology of inflammasomes - proteins that help protect the body during infection and inflammation. You will work on exciting projects exploring how lipids in cells can switch these immune responses on or off.

The role offers the chance to develop your skills in a world-class research environment using state-of-the-art tools and techniques. You will be based in the Department of Infectious Disease at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus, working in a supportive research lab. Your role will involve hands-on lab work using techniques in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Previous experience in a similar lab setting is helpful, but training will be provided. This is a great opportunity to build practical skills and address scientific questions about immune system function.

You will investigate how lipid metabolism influences immune responses, focusing on inflammasome activation and regulation. Daily tasks include designing and performing experiments with techniques such as Western blotting, ELISA, immunofluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry. You will collaborate with lab members to analyze data, interpret results, and contribute to publications. You will also maintain accurate lab records and ensure high standards in experiments.

This role offers a chance to deepen your immunology and cell biology expertise while advancing our understanding of immune regulation in health and disease. Responsibilities include:

  • Support research using techniques in immunology, cell biology, and biochemistry.
  • Plan, conduct, and contribute to experiments.
  • Develop methods for data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Establish protocols and troubleshoot experiments efficiently.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, including students.
  • Present research findings and contribute to discussions.
  • Assist in preparing publications and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Research Associate: PhD in immunology, infectious diseases, cell biology, innate immunity, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Research Assistant: A first-class Master’s degree in the relevant areas.

*Candidates not yet awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant with a salary range of £43,003 - £46,297 per annum. Benefits include a sector-leading salary, 39 days off per year, generous pension schemes, and opportunities for promotion within a diverse and inclusive work environment.
