About the role Would you like to join a research group working towards prediction and new treatments for one of the most common medical conditions?
This role drives research seeking to discover new knowledge with the aim of transforming the lives of people living with osteoarthritis.
We are seeking an experienced post-doctoral researcher with expertise and experience in biostatistics to join Dr Fiona Watt’s Osteoarthritis Research Group, to help drive research funded by Arthritis UK forward.
This research focusses on whether female sex (a major risk factor for osteoarthritis) and specifically post-menopausal osteoarthritis provide additional opportunities to understand and stratify/subgroup the condition, towards successful translation including clinical trials in the area, another focus for the group.
The role is supported by Arthritis UK, via its recently funded osteoarthritis consortium.
What you would be doing You will plan, design and carry out the statistical analysis of molecular and clinical data, working both independently and collaborating with other researchers to contribute to the delivery of research objectives.
You will present findings in a variety of ways, including at regular meetings within the department and with external collaborators in the Arthritis UK funded consortium, writing and submitting publications.
You will participate in our group’s wider programme of research, helping to guide the work of others in the team.
What we are looking for You have the drive, appropriate training and experience to thrive in taking a leading role in this research, analysis and beyond.
You will already have extensive practical experience in organising and analysing complex or large ‘omics datasets, including proteomic datasets such as Soma Scan or expression datasets as well as clinical data.
You will enjoy working both on your own and with collaborators in multidisciplinary research within a group that puts patient benefit at the heart of what we do.
This includes involving patients and other stakeholders in our research.
You are able to develop and apply new concepts and show a creative approach to problem solving.
You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and advanced computer programming and statistical analysis skills including R.
