About the role

Are you passionate about solving one of the major challenges in drug delivery for cancer therapy using a multidisciplinary nanomedicine approach? We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate in Nanomedicine for Cancer to join the Najer Group in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London in collaboration with the Bruna Group at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) to tackle a devastating childhood cancer, neuroblastoma. Nanomedicines for cancer struggle to reach their target due to blood vessel barriers hindering access to tumours. In this role you will pioneer a new type of nanomedicine designed to target tumour blood vessels to activate transport across the barrier.

What you would be doing

  • You will be responsible for developing an exciting new type of nanoparticle designed to bind to tumour blood vessel cells to activate trans-endothelium transport of the nanomedicine to more efficiently reach tumour cells.
  • The role entails:
    • Formulating nanoparticles
    • Characterising the final nanomedicine
    • Studying cell uptake and endothelium transport using a trans-well setup
    • Analysing data and presenting to colleagues, at workshops and conferences
    • Collaborating with researchers in both groups and beyond
    • Contributing to patient engagement activities
    • Managing a CL2 laboratory

What we are looking for

  • PhD in Materials Science/Nanomaterials/Biomaterials/Bioengineering/Microbiology or Cell Biology or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
  • Experience in CL2 mammalian cell culture (essential) and/or CL3 pathogen culture (desirable)
  • Experience in nanoparticle research, including studies in cells
  • Experience in techniques for cellular analysis (e.g. flow cytometry, confocal imaging)
  • Knowledge in nanomedicine, drug delivery, anticancer therapies
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an international research environment
