Join Imperial College London’s central Careers Service and play a key role in helping students and graduates navigate their next steps with confidence. The Careers Service supports undergraduates and postgraduates across all years of study, working closely with academic departments, employers, alumni and internal partners to create impactful career support, insight opportunities and development experiences.

As a Placement and Internship Adviser, you will combine relationship management, student support, operational planning and programme delivery to ensure these opportunities are high-quality, well-supported and impactful for all participants. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the Career’s Service’s experiential learning schemes. These currently include Alumni Mentoring, Ask an Alum, Work Shadowing, the Professional Project Fund and the SME and White City Internship schemes.

The role will involve:

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with employers, alumni, academic departments and internal partners to source and shape meaningful opportunities.
  • Promoting and marketing schemes to eligible student groups, ensuring clear, inclusive and timely communication.
  • Managing application, matching, shortlisting and selection processes, ensuring fairness, transparency and a positive student experience.
  • Preparing students to engage effectively with their experiences, including providing guidance, training and ongoing support.
  • Monitoring participation and engagement, responding to issues as they arise, and supporting both students and hosts throughout delivery.
  • Leading on reflection and evaluation, using feedback and data to inform continuous improvement of schemes.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Careers Service, including Careers Consultants and the Employer Engagement team, as well as with the Alumni Team, Imperial departments, and partners across Enterprise and White City’s Innovation Ecosystem. You will also contribute to wider employer engagement activity, supporting organisations to promote opportunities and build productive relationships with Imperial, specifically relating to internships and placement-style opportunities.

We are looking for someone who is motivated, adaptable and committed to delivering high-quality experiential learning opportunities for students. You will bring a genuine interest in student development and employability, alongside the organisational and relationship-management skills needed to deliver multiple schemes effectively.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working in a student-facing, employability, careers, higher education or graduate recruitment context.
  • The ability to work proactively and with initiative, identifying what needs to be done and taking ownership of tasks.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple schemes, deadlines and stakeholders at the same time.
  • A commitment to excellent customer service and care, with a genuine desire to support students, alumni, external partners and internal colleagues.
  • The ability to support students in preparing for work and insight experiences, including an understanding of workplace expectations and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Confidence in representing Imperial and its students to employers and opportunity providers, and in communicating the value of Imperial’s talent and Careers Service offer.
  • Experience developing and maintaining productive relationships with employers and other partners, including SMEs and larger organisations, to support meaningful opportunities for students.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, managing large data sets, and handling information accurately and efficiently.
  • Confidence in supporting scheme funding, reporting and budget monitoring.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, using tact and diplomacy to build effective working relationships.
  • A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in the design and delivery of opportunities.
  • Experience of supporting experiential learning or employability programmes, coordinating schemes or projects, working with employers or alumni, or managing application and selection processes would be an advantage, but we welcome applicants with transferable skills and a strong interest in this area of work.
