As an IP Due Diligence Officer, you will use your knowledge to establish ownership, review funding contracts and resolve encumbrances relating to intellectual property generated at Imperial. You will work with teams across Imperial's Enterprise Division, to advise on any obligations relating to the IP portfolio prior to its commercialisation, while supporting Imperial's technology commercialisation activities. You will also report to funding partners and joint-owners, to meet third party obligations and resolve encumbrances.
You will be responsible for handling a portfolio of IP cases arising from Imperial research, progressing them through IP due diligence to identify third party obligations prior to commercialisation. As a service provider, your main duties will include:
- Reviewing inventor funding terms and conditions and relevant research contracts, to assess and advise on encumbrances and obligations
- Ensuring all relevant information on the IP Due Diligence of a case is captured and recorded and that the process is completed prior to assignment of IP
- Maintaining a close relationship with the IPC teams to ensure prioritisation of IP due diligence work meets commercial priorities
- Notifying funders and negotiating third-party rights to resolve encumbrances identified during the IP Due Diligence review
- Acting in an advisory capacity to different teams, in relation to research funding IP terms, particularly with respect to major charity funders and revenue distribution models
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience in a contract or licensing support role, corporate legal support or licence management role in a university or commercial environment.
- A sound understanding of Intellectual Property
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise work for self and others
- A methodical and organised approach to work
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
- A good solid understanding of Microsoft Excel and databases or Customer Relationship Management systems, such as Salesforce

This is a full-time post (37 hours per week). This role is for a fixed-term contract for 12 months (16th March 2026 β 15th March 2027).
