We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Faculty Chemical Safety Advisor to join the Faculty of Natural Sciences Safety Team. As the chemical safety subject matter expert, you will provide specialist advice on chemical risks and safety management across the Faculty and its departments.

Your core responsibilities will be:

  • To provide advice on chemical risk assessments, processes, and safety controls.
  • Coordinating and advising on the implementation of the LabCup system within the Faculty.
  • Maintaining and coordinating the Faculty Chemical Emergency Spill training programme.
  • To carry out inspections and incident investigation, and monitor follow up of actions.
  • Assisting the Safety Team to develop effective policies and procedures relating to the management of chemicals and other safety related subjects.

What we are looking for:

The role is ideally suited to an individual currently in a research or lab management position who is looking to gain experience in a safety related role. You must have an appropriate academic qualification in Chemistry or a closely related discipline. Experience working with a range of techniques and processes common to Chemistry laboratories and chemical processing and knowledge and experience of safety issues associated with the laboratory environment are essential. You must also understand regulations and procedures relating to health and safety and the implications of non-compliance. Knowledge of the range of activities and the safety issues that arise in an academic research environment within higher education or industry is also highly desirable and practical health and safety training will be given where required.
