The Role
At Imperial Brands, we are looking for an Aerosol Specialist to lead the development and optimisation of analytical methods that support our next-generation product portfolio. This role combines deep expertise in aerosol science and particle size measurement with a strong understanding of regulatory standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver innovative, compliant solutions, while also helping to build scientific capability across our lab network.

Principle Accountabilities
- Scientific Leadership: Lead aerosol and particle size testing across our lab network, developing advanced methods and solving complex technical challenges to support innovative product development.
- Innovation & Collaboration: Drive continuous improvement by working closely with cross-functional teams, ensuring research aligns with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
- Team Development: Mentor junior scientists, foster a culture of excellence, and support learning and development to build future-ready capabilities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key contact for internal teams and external partners, including CROs, ensuring high-quality service delivery and scientific integrity.
- Equipment & Resource Strategy: Shape our equipment strategy through smart investment planning and supplier selection, ensuring our labs remain at the forefront of technology.
- Compliance & Industry Involvement: Stay ahead of regulatory changes, contribute to global standards, and represent the business in industry forums such as CORESTA.
Skills and Experience Required
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with advanced aerosol instrumentation, including NGI, ACI, SMPS, APS, laser diffraction, and particle counters.
- Industry Knowledge: Proven background in inhalation therapies (e.g. nebulizers, DPIs, MDIs) and/or consumer aerosol products like e-cigarettes and heated tobacco.
- Scientific Understanding: Strong grasp of aerosol science fundamentals, including generation, nucleation, thermodynamics, and deposition processes.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated scientific rigor with a proactive, innovative approach to solving complex technical challenges.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- Strategic & Data-Driven Thinking: Experience in equipment strategy and supplier management, alongside a strong focus on data management and enhancing data literacy.
