Hertfordshire County Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Adult Social Worker to join its specialist Sensory Services Team in Hemel Hempstead on a locum basis. Hertfordshire is widely recognised for its commitment to high standards of practice, strong leadership, and investment in frontline services. The council promotes a culture of professional autonomy, reflective supervision, and manageable caseloads, ensuring social workers are supported to deliver effective and defensible practice.

This is a specialist opportunity to work within a well-established Sensory Services Team, supporting adults with sensory impairments to maximise independence, wellbeing, and community engagement. The service works in line with the Care Act 2014, placing strengths-based practice and person-centred outcomes at the core of its approach.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake comprehensive Care Act assessments and statutory reviews
  • Apply eligibility criteria confidently and lawfully
  • Manage a complex caseload with autonomy and accountability
  • Complete Mental Capacity Assessments and coordinate Best Interest Decisions
  • Lead and manage safeguarding enquiries in line with statutory duties
  • Work within the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards framework
  • Produce high-quality, analytical, and evidence-based reports
  • Work collaboratively with health colleagues and multi-agency partners
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and defensible case recording

The successful candidate will be a confident Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration and strong working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding procedures, and DoLS. You will be organised, resilient, and capable of making sound professional judgments in complex situations.

Essential Requirements:
  • Qualified Social Worker with current SWE registration
  • Strong legislative knowledge and statutory experience
  • Excellent report writing and IT skills
  • Full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle
