About this Role

This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity to take on a central role in how Better Society Capital manages impact and systems change across all asset classes in which it invests, at a pivotal moment as the organisation becomes a tech-first institution. The role welcomes applicants looking for a secondment as well as those seeking a fixed-term contract to cover a period of parental leave. You will help shape how BSC generates, reports on and acts on impact and systems change insight across the whole portfolio. This encompasses building the data infrastructure and analytical capability behind investment decisions, redesigning how the organisation reports to its Investment Committee, Board and external stakeholders, and working directly with asset class teams and fund managers to embed rigorous impact, ESG and EDI practice into individual deals. You will be joining a team already recognised for the strength of its impact investing practice and will help carry that standard forward. You will gain direct exposure to the Investment Committee and senior leadership, and accelerate your growth through hands-on experience, tailored training and collaboration with sector-leading specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead the design and delivery of a tech-first, data-driven impact and systems change insights capability
  • Shape the insights built and prioritised across asset classes and impact themes, aligned with the 2026-30 strategy
  • Help build the internal data infrastructure that underpins insights, working with data, AI and asset class teams to sharpen and scale delivery
  • Lead portfolio-level analysis through the annual performance cycle, turning data into insight the investment team, leadership and Investment Committee can act on
  • Help lead the redesign and delivery of decision-useful impact reporting
  • Lead the design of management information that supports how the organisation makes, manages and learns from investments across the portfolio
  • Support the delivery of reporting to key governance bodies including the Investment Committee and Board
  • Support the redesign and delivery of external impact reports, and lead on impact, ESG and EDI disclosures
  • Deliver impact, ESG and EDI analysis for investments across their lifecycle, as needed
  • Work with asset class teams to steward the effective completion of the shared 'impact term sheet' with fund managers, including agreeing measurable KPIs
  • Lead and contribute to parts of the market-leading impact investing practice and process, in collaboration with colleagues across BSC and external partners
  • Contribute to team- and organisation-wide initiatives that help deliver the mission, such as working groups to improve approach on key areas

Requirements

  • A passion and demonstrable commitment to improving lives in the UK
  • Experience in the design and delivery of impact management and measurement frameworks, processes and tools
  • Experience undertaking and communicating detailed analysis of complex problems
  • Experience leveraging data and technology to deliver impact insights
  • Work experience in the financial, social or public sector
  • Proven relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
  • Structured thinking ability - able to deal with complexity and keep focus in the face of challenge or uncertainty
  • Innovative, creative and strategic approach to problem solving
  • Collegial team player - flexible and willing to work with and contribute to a team

  • Work experience in impact investing or sustainable investing
  • Experience of ESG and/or EDI analysis
  • Experience or knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as TCFD and SDR, and/or reporting frameworks such as PRI
  • Proven project management skills

  • Salary range of Β£61,500 - Β£67,000 per annum
