Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Location: Northampton

Salary: £43,407 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, Rotating Shifts (6:00am - 2:00pm / 2:00pm - 10:00pm) (37.5 hours, Permanent)

Impact Recruitment are recruiting for an experienced Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Engineer on behalf of a well‑established manufacturing business based in Northampton.

As a Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a wide range of production machinery, plant equipment and site utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across production machinery and plant equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults.
  • Maintain site utilities including steam systems, compressed air generation, water circulation systems and hydraulic equipment.
  • Service and maintain boilers, compressors, hydraulic units, control valves, pre‑expanders and associated plant machinery.
  • Respond promptly to production breakdowns, identifying root causes and implementing effective repairs.
  • Carry out motor testing, component replacement and machinery diagnostics.
  • Complete routine inspections and accurately record all maintenance activities.
  • Carry out monthly spare parts stock checks and assist with ordering replacement components.
  • Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime and maximise equipment reliability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant performance and engineering efficiency.

Requirements

  • Electrical and Mechanical Engineering qualification (HNC or equivalent preferred).
  • Time‑served engineering apprenticeship desirable.
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic and steam systems.
  • Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) systems.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
