Company Overview: Our client is a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Kettering, specialising in the design and manufacture of manufacturing equipment, materials handling systems and bespoke machinery for a broad range of industrial customers. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.
The Role: As Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical designs across a range of projects, supporting them from initial concept through to commissioning. Key responsibilities include:
- Producing 3D models, layouts and detailed designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Designing sheet metal and fabricated components for conveyor systems and special-purpose machinery
- Creating general arrangement drawings, bills of materials and detailed manufacturing documentation
- Supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle, from concept to commissioning
- Integrating machinery and equipment into efficient and practical plant layouts
- Collaborating closely with Sales, Projects, Manufacturing, suppliers and customers
- Contributing to continuous improvement of design standards, quality and cost efficiency
About You: To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Proven experience in a Design Engineer or Project Engineer role
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Essential experience designing sheet metal and fabricated products
- Experience with conveyor systems or special-purpose machinery (desirable)
- A good understanding of relevant regulations and basic electrical principles
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
