As a Teaching Assistant, you will support teachers with their day-to-day work in the classroom and help ensure a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment for all pupils.
Main Duties:
- Support for Pupils:
- Assist in pupils’ educational, social, and emotional development under the direction of the Head Teacher and class teachers.
- Support children in developing health, independence, and self-care skills (e.g., washing hands, toileting, changing nappies).
- Provide extra help to pupils who need additional support to complete tasks.
- Supervise and engage children in group and play-based activities.
- Read stories, lead songs, and encourage children’s enjoyment of learning through play.
- Care for children who require comfort, first aid, or support following accidents.
- Help pupils develop positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Support for Teachers and the Classroom:
- Assist teachers with planning learning activities and maintaining pupil records.
- Help set up and tidy the classroom each day to ensure it is ready for lessons.
- Prepare and present displays of children’s work.
- Support teachers with outings, trips, and sports events.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organised learning environment.
- Administrative Duties:
- Photocopying, filing, and other routine administrative tasks to support teaching.
- Maintain displays, resources, and equipment as directed.
- Carry out routine tasks required for the smooth running of the classroom.
- Standards and Quality Assurance:
- Support and promote the aims and ethos of the school.
- Set a positive example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
- Be proactive in matters relating to safeguarding, health, and safety.
- Attend relevant meetings and staff training as required.
- Participate in professional development and performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with all school policies and procedures.
- Keep your Enhanced DBS Check and subscription to the DBS Update Service current (this is a personal responsibility).
- Physical Demands of the Role:
- The role involves bending, kneeling, crouching, and sitting on the floor for extended periods.
- Lifting or holding children and pushing buggies may be required.
- You may occasionally be asked to work additional hours, with extra pay provided.
- The classroom (tables, chairs, toys, etc.) must be cleaned, wiped, or washed every Friday after school, on the last day of each school term, and at other times as requested.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- You may also be required to undertake other comparable duties as reasonably requested by the Manager or the Founder.
- Your duties are set out in this job description; however, please note that the school reserves the right to update your responsibilities from time to time to reflect changes in the role.
- Training Information:
- Over the course of 15 – 18 months, you will study units such as health & safety in a childcare setting, holistic child development, safeguarding in a childcare setting, child development, communication with children, purposeful play and educational programmes, supporting children with special educational needs, collaborative working in early years childcare, wellbeing principles for children and at higher levels, child protection, data, supporting key life transitions and behaviour management.
- Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will achieve a Level 3 qualification and a TQUK Diploma in Early Years.
- A DBS check will be required for this role.
- If you do not hold GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent), these will be delivered alongside the apprenticeship programme.
- Our delivery of training is through blended learning, supported by one of our sector specialist tutors.
- You will initially take an online assessment that will help us to understand your learning style and needs, then we will tailor your learning experience accordingly.
- At the end of your programme, your learnt knowledge, skills and behaviours will be assessed by an independent assessor in your end point assessment (EPA).
- As part of the apprenticeship, alongside your job role, 20% of your time in work must be dedicated to developing new skills.
